Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clean my Bura Bura upcycled vintage kimono piece?

Spot cleaning and airing out your vintage piece is the preferred method of cleaning.

If a deeper clean is required, handwash separately in cold water with a gentle washing powder/liquid. Let the fabric soak for a few minutes, then lightly agitate the water. Rinse the fabric well in cold water to ensure all the washing powder/liquid is removed. Place the fabric flat on a towel, then gently roll it up. This will soak up excess water. Never twist or wring the fabric, even when it is rolled in the towel. Finally, place the fabric flat on a clothes rack out of direct sunlight to dry.

Dry cleaning is recommended for silk fabrics. However, if you choose to wash silk in water, use a silk specific detergent with the method explained above.

All fabrics are pre-washed before sewing, however please be aware that there may be some slight shrinkage and dye run with some fabrics when washing in water.
